You Are a Creator By Default: Reclaiming Your Creative Power

This post was inspired by a quote from Dolores Canon’s “The Convoluted Universe” located on page 427. “However, it is sufficient to say that each of you has a part of that total, overall consciousness within you. And you are indeed capable of creating and discreating. Therefore, you are by your own defintions of God, the Creator, a god in and of yourself. You, yourselves are god creators. Perhaps not on a level which you ascribe to the all encompassing God. However, it is important here to note that you, yourselves are indeed creators.”

The Inspiration

When I initially read this quote in Dolores Book, it did not resonate with me the way that it does now. I think at the time, I was not ready to receive or fully understand what it means to be a creator. I was still heavily convinced that the matrix that I was in was the final reality. So many people had influences on my life when I read that it didn’t make sense. I was too comfortable with allowing so much external input. Now that I’ve detached and taken full responsibility for my life, I understand the message conveyed by this quote.

This post is not advice, but me sharing what worked for me and how I push myself to create. If you feel like something resonates with you, please take it and use it as you need to in your life. I recently wrote a piece on not giving out unsolicited advice; check it out here.

Distractions, Trauma, and Low Self-Esteem

When we were born, we were all pure and full of love. The circumstances we were born into and the life challenges we have to experience to evolve push us away from that pureness. I guess that is the whole point of life, to journey back to who you really are. The world we live in has been so perfectly curated to make sure that we stay lost. So much information has been withheld, distorted, and misconstrued that we don’t know what we are missing or being lied to about.

Some souls are so strong that no matter what is thrown at them, they will catch it, alchemize, and turn it into something great. They are strong in all aspects, so lies are detected easily, and they navigate this reality with confidence. We all go through some form of bad things; no one can escape that. The point is, when it is your turn to experience “the bad“, please do not hold on to it. If you have a fireball in your hand that was burning through your skin, wouldn’t you want to throw it down to stop the pain so the wound can heal? This part of life is where emphasis should have been put on us humans, especially the ones in specific communities that get neglected on purpose.

In our modern times, there are so many distractions that are very good at keeping our attention. I really did not grasp the concept of this until I started to notice my screen time hours. Sunday morning came, and I received a notification that said I was averaging almost 8 hours!! I was in shock because it did not feel like I was, and then I realized that is the whole damn point.

I started being more intentional with my time and how I spent it. It was so hard at first because my natural reflex in everything was to grab my phone. Commercial breaks? A quick scrolling session. Boredom? My phone will cure that. As a miliennal I was embarrassed because I grew up in the era of being outside and having little to no technology at all. Once I became aware of what happened, I quickly started to wean myself off my phone and get back to my roots of raw creativity.

Low self-esteem will also make you make yourself as small as possible to not be seen or heard. If you are in this state of mind, then you are convincing yourself of every negative self-belief. Social media is probably aiding in that negative self-talk because you are comparing yourself to what you see online. There are no details on how the pretty pictures were made, just the final product. You pair that with low self-esteem, and you have a recipe for disaster that only impacts you.

The simple fix for all of this is to remove all distractions and anything in aiding in a negative self-belief.

Start Creating

The first thing you can do is start creating. Find something that lights you up on the inside. Tip: you have to try out of alot of things to find that one special thing. When you remove the limited beliefs, you will find that you can go out and create whatever you want. Personally, I like to write because I can create worlds, characters, and scenarios with words. I also like the idea of creating things visually, too. That is still new for me, so I’m in the learning stages. The ultimate goal for me is to combine my words with my visuals to bring everything to life.

Things you can create:

  • Music (beats, songs, instruments, etc.)
  • Art (painting, drawing, coloring, etc.)
  • Photography (pictures of whatever you like)
  • Games (boardgames, card games, etc.)
  • Clothing (sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc.)
  • Writing (stories, books, magazines, etc.)
  • Videos (vlogs, video diaries, travel, etc.)
  • Food (breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc.)
  • Beauty (makeup looks for special occasions)

There are so many different things you can create in this world, but the key is finding the one that resonates with you the most. We have a purpose in being incarnated on Earth, and when we discover what that purpose is, life will open up for us in the best way possible. Creating is our natural born birthright. If you are human, you can create; we all have a small spark of God in us. Creation is embedded in our DNA.

Try not to copy anyone else’s creations; go within to find your unique thing. For me, I had to go offline to figure out what I really like. I’m in a little-to-no-consumption mindset because if I do consume, I may find myself subconsciously copying the creator. So I don’t consume unless I’ve created, and when I do create, I know for a fact it is my creation.

Final Thoughts & Tips

The most important thing you can do while getting back to your creative self is have fun. Have fun experimenting and document the process, not to share but for future reflections. If you feel the need to share the process, then only share what you are comfortable with being critiqued. Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone while discovering your creative side. There is so much art in life; we just have to get out there to see it. Lastly, don’t be afraid to make mistakes during creation. That is how we will learn. We have to observe what is wrong to make improvements. And finally, give yourself grace, consistency, and patience. Those three things are the perfect recipe for a life well lived with care, intention, and love.

If you are on a creative journey, share in the comments what you have been working on. Let’s inspire each other!
