With the government shut down still in effect and impacting millions of federal workers, we’ve decided to dedicate this post to highlighting 7 positive and free things you can do to help you stay grounded during this difficult time. When you are going through something as troubling as not being able to provide for your family (especially if you don’t have savings), it is hard to take advice to distract yourself or not worry. With so much at risk, it is hard not to focus on the issues at hand, especially when your livelihood depends on it. Focusing on the negative is what “they” want you to do because it will only cause you to spiral into something deeper that will alter your life in the worst way. When you realize life is a game, all these events will start to make sense. You have to make the conscious decision to continue to rise above what is happening if it does not align with your purpose.
Why This Post Matters Right Now
No matter where you work, everyone can relate in some way to what the federal workers are experiencing right now due to the shutdown. Until those jobs are resumed and their pay is restored, there is not enough advice or suggestions anyone could give to help ease the worry they all feel right now. Today’s post is dedicated to providing realistic and thoughtful solutions that can hopefully ease the stress levels, or at least distract them, during this difficult time. I have been through a very hard period in my life that I thought I would never see through the end of it, but here I am right now out on the other side with so much gratitude and abundance around me. The only way you will see results is if you make the decision to apply something from this list until you feel like it is working. And when it does work, don’t stop just because things are good, keep using it and applying it every single day.
Keep Going: The Tunnel Has an Ending
Tough times are similar to traveling through a pitch black tunnel that seems to have no end in sight, just pure darkness. Advice that was given to me is Why would you stop in that dark tunnel? Why not keep going until you start to see to light? Once you can see the light, you know there is only a matter of time before you are finally free. When I processed that analogy, everything clicked for me because the advice was simple and made perfect sense. If you feel like you are going through a tough time, never succumb to the darkness that you may feel. It will only end up being worse if you choose to sit and stay in that tunnel.
Healthy Coping Tools That Actually Help
This article is here to offer positive advice and healthy ways to cope during a difficult time. The advice mentioned below is things that I have used during experiences that have challenged me, such as going through a layoff, relationships, motherhood woes, and so much more. We don’t need any more reminders of all the negativity around us we need more postivie reminders and notes on how to counter the negativity with positivity. Most adults don’t have healthy coping skills when the time comes to handle challenging situations, so the goal is to provide solutions instead of focusing on the problems. Everything on this list are things that I wish were taught to me as a child to prepare me for a world that will try to dim your light.
- THINK POSITIVE & STAY POSITIVE.
My first piece of advice would be not an actual activity that you can do, but more of an internal practice, and that is to keep your faith. Stay focused on positive outcomes only. If you are going to think of something, why not make sure it is positive? I would envision the government reopening, and all back pay is paid to your account according to the law standards. No matter what you visualize, let it be positive until you start to really believe it. Once you start to truly believe your vision majority of the work is done. I know we have heard all of this before, but with intention and consistency, I can assure you it will work. If you are going through a sensitive time, remove everything that will trigger negativity. Try to retrain your brain to only focus on the positive or make you aware of the all the positivity that you have around you. Reject any form of negativity or anyone spewing negativity to you.
- GET GROUNDED.
Second would be to keep yourself grounded. Grounding for me looks like going on walks to observe nature and life. There’s a path by home that has views of the fall foliage and traffic. I mention traffic because I’m oddly intrigued by just observing everyone going on about their everyday lives. At 31 years old, I have figured out that people watching is an actual pastime for anyone to experience, especially if you live in a major city. Parents are always told that it is important to get their kids off the iPads and outside to touch some grass. Dolores Cannon also mentioned in one of her books that the other will absorb the “negative” energy from us when we walk on the ground with no shoes on. Just as we can, the earth can alchemize negative energy into something positive and useful.
- FIND A HEALTHY OUTLET.
If you can’t alchemize, find a healthy outlet that allows you to properly release all the lower vibration feelings you don’t want stored in your body. Writing is the easiest way to release if you are looking for something straightforward. My personal preference is actual writing with a pencil because I truly feel like as I am writing, the feelings are physically manifesting out of my brain and onto paper, where I can see it actualized. It sounds weird, but when that happens, I feel as though the feelings are purged out of my system. If you grew up more in the digital age, then by all means, journal on your phone/computer or iPad. There are so many different ways to purge lower vibrations out of your body, such as drawing, painting, singing, making music, and so much more. You just have to find the one that resonates with you the most.
- READ BOOKS.
Growing up reading fiction books was always a good distraction for me. I was able to escape to a world that was better than mine at the time. I’ve always had an active imagination, but it’s always fun to get a glimpse into someone else’s. As I grew older, I started to dabble in non-fiction books, but fiction is where my heart will forever remain. I’d like to throw in that Stephen King is one of my favorite authors. I’m a horror science fiction junkie because of his words. Don’t limit yourself to reading books; you can read magazines or even newspapers. Physical media is not dead, and the people who are passionate about writing and sharing stories have some interesting things to say. Right now, I am reading Stephen King’s “You Like It Darker” and so far I can’t put it down. Fiction books are great distractions and allow you to wander into a different world when your current reality is not ideal. Books are like a reset for me; I’m able to distract myself from the lower vibrations, and reading someone else’s creativity inspires me to get back focused on mine. Support your local library if you can’t afford to always buy the latest book from your favorite author. The library is an amazing resource for everyone of all ages!
- TALK TO OTHER HUMANS.
My younger self would literally cringe and make up any excuse to not go out and interact with people. As I navigated the real world and was quite literally forced to interact, I realized that people were not that bad and actually interesting. Everyone is out living their own lives and has created stories that are interesting to listen to, in my world. My favorite page that captures unique individual stories so well is “Humans of New York.” It would be cool to have that expanded to different areas of the world. I’d like to say that I have lived “many” lives over the last decade, and I’ve met some interesting characters along the way. Now that fear no longer runs my show, I’m excited to interact and get to know the people of the world. Talking to people in your community also humanizes them; it’s easy to forget that we are all human when you don’t have normal and frequent interactions. You then start to put your personal world onto other people, and when they don’t meet those expectations, problems arise. We humans need human interactions to stay human.
- EXERCISE.
During times of stress and uncertainty, exercising can be the healthiest form of release you can do. Your body is the key part of your human experience, so we must take care of it in our lifetime. When I used to frequent the gym, I remember having a hard day at work and looking forward to releasing my stress. It was a hard process during but it always felt good after, and I felt like I sweated out all the negative energy. At the time that this post was written, fall has been in full effect with all of the beautiful foliage. All you need is a light jacket, headphones, and two legs to enjoy a 30-minute walk to reset yourself. If you prefer the gym, dedicate 1 full hour to a workout to release the stress and worries of the world. You are releasing the unwanted energies and also taking care of your body in the process. It’s a win situation for every part of you involved, and not to mention it’s FREE.
- THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX.
When I went through my first layoff, the first thing I thought of was how I make sure I never end up in this position again. I asked myself if I didn’t need the money from the job, would I still do it? And the answer was no. After that realization, The Cosmic Radar was born, and the rest is history. Everyone’s desires will be different as we are on our own individual timelines. You have to dig deep within and find out what works for you. If you wouldn’t still do the job that you are doing now for zero money, maybe it’s time to think outside the box and figure out the job that you would want to do. Your interests are usually a signal to your dreams. Get delusional enough to think anything is possible, act on your ideas, and follow that delusion until you end up somewhere that satisfies every part of your being.
Back to the Basics
Although this is a simple list, sometimes that is all we need. Our “perfectly” curated world can be quite overstimulating because we have access to so much information across the different parts of the world. If we can forget about the materialistic side of the world and get back to the basics, we have a very good shot at living a fulfilling and meaningful life. Take what resonates from this list and leave what doesn’t; the goal is to offer a different type of advice that we are seeing being published across media pages. We all know the stress that this government shutdown is causing federal workers, but keeing that info flooded on your timeline serves no purpose other than fueling the negativity. We want to offer some positivity and cosmic advice that will hopefully ease the pressure that you may be experiencing during one of the most interesting timelines we are on.
Let’s Talk: How Are You Coping?
Let’s start a conversation in the comments and share how you are coping healthily during this government shutdown or how you cope in general when faced with challenging scenarios.
