A Non-Religious Bible Book That Was Refreshingly Easy to Read

This book was deliciously refreshing for someone that has not read the bible but wants a better understanding of the bible without joining a religion. There are other ways to explore the bible in a non religious way but this book kind of fell into my lap. I went to my local used book store with the intention of searching for a Dolores Cannon book but ended up finding this. This is my first introduction to Edgar Cayce and his words reminds me so much of Dolores Cannon’s work. Cayce was born on March 18th, 1877 and departed this realm on January 3rd, 1945 at 67 years old. Dolores was born on April 15th 1931, and departed this realm on October 18th, 2014 at 83 years old. They share a small over lap in time but not enough time to become aware of each other.

Edgar Cayce’s Early Life and Religious Background

Edgar Cayce was born in Christian County, Kentucky to his parents that were farmers and also had 5 other siblings. Him and his siblings were raised in the Disciples of Christ religion. His education only made it as far as the eighth grade because his parents could not afford the costs. Later on in life he married at the ripe age of 20 and started his new life Louisville. According to Wikipedia, Cayce lost his voice on April 18th, 1900 and was unable to say anything above a whisper, looking for a solution he went to a hypnotherapist by the name of Hart The Laugh King. Cayce made the papers, once again, because his voice returned but only when he was under hypnosis by Hart. On February 12th, 1901 it was reported that Cayce had waken up to his voice fully returned to normal. I thought this part of his life was worth mentioning because this seems to be the event that started him down the path of the metaphysical world. If you are interested in learning more details about that experience please check out the Wikipedia article.

Why the Bible Can Feel Confusing Without Interpretation

As we all know the story of the bible, in the christian world, is an interesting one. If you take the task of deciphering the all of the stories and content within the big book you will be left with confusion. I say confusion because the bible, in my opinion, is the interpretation of events that happened millions of years ago. The bible is filled with parables and allegory and if tried to take on the task of deciphering every event it could take a full year. At least for me. This book, The Story of The Soul, deciphers the stories in a digestible way that is easy to understand and makes the most sense, to me. W.H Church uses Cayce’s reading and starts at the beginning of the journey, that we all know as Genesis, and gently guides you all the way to the end. If taken literally, the bible has some fear elements in it, however, Church interprets Cayce’s readings that helps remove any traces of fear. If you are looking for a non traditional perspective I would highly recommend this book to read along side the bible or to read it alone. Church does an excellent job of explaining everything in layman terms. If you have ever wondered about the beginning and where it will end, please take the time to read and meditate on the contents of this book.

Why I’m Only Sharing a Few Notes From This Book

I have so many post it tabs, highlights, and sticky notes annotated in this book that I would not be able to include all of it in this one post. So instead I will be including only the notes that really resonated with me or I found the most interesting. For future content, I will reference my book notes for ideas and inspiration so make sure you are subscribed to our social media accounts and joined our newsletter for the latest content.

Speech as the Highest Vibration in the Human Body

Cayce once remarked that speech is the highest vibration in the human body. In this same connection, he recommended use of the spoken word in prayer as being more effective than its silent counterpart.”  This line is something that I keep rediscovering as I go further down the path in my spiritual journey. Your voice and words are the key to physically manifesting anything in this world. I am glad that I am reminded of this message because I’m a person that keeps my dialogue within my the safe space of my mind. I like to write my prayers out instead of speaking them and although they get answered I believe if I said them out loud it will manifest itself faster. I believe having a voice is a very unique experience to us humans and it should not be something that we waste. Fall in love with your voice, perfect your voice, USE your voice. The soul purpose in having a voice is to use it, don’t ever forget that.

Why Spiritual Balance Matters for Human Evolution

Page 37-“Science and religion form the twin props of our modern civilization. Each has its separate function, of course; but so do human head and heart, through the one cannot survive without a degree of cooperation from the other. This interdependency needs to be recognized and acted upon, or the welfare of the whole body is at risk. It is like intellect and emotion: we need them both, in a balanced interplay, or we are in danger of becoming split personality, heading toward self-destruction.”  This line really stood out to me because it reinforces the concept of balance that we need to survive as a human. There is nothing on this earth that we need too much of, we need an equal amount of balance of everything in order for us to function. Church used the word religion but I believe spirituality would have been a better fit. In our world we have many religions that all shout the same thing but in different ways (for the most part) but spirituality seems like it could be a more general term that avoids answering the question, which religion is the right one? I believe when science (as we know it) starts to intertwine the spiritual aspect of life as human we then will start to make life changing break throughs. As Church said, we need our minds just as much as hearts to work together so we can live a life we love with ease.

A New Perspective on Souls, Spirits, and Animals

“The soul-force was reserved for the man alone.” & “It is only man, it seems, who has been gifted by the maker with the three-tiered intelligence embodied in the subconscious, and superconscious forces.” These two quotes were so good that I had to include both. I believe I also read that the spirit becomes a soul only when entered into the universe of matter and when it exits it is returned as spirit-the original form. The second quote that says the soul is only reserved for humans alone and that answered alot of questions for me specifically when it comes to animals. I always thought that we are all souls in bodies but just a different format. And that theory derived from seeing dogs with “human” eyes. If you are going off Church’s interpretation of Cayce’s readings, then that is not the case at all. The animal is still very much alive and what we are seeing is the spirit “dressed” up as an animal. The animal will function with the animal instincts it has been assigned. I’d like to think you have to reincarnate as a dog first before you become a human and when we see those human eyes in them, that is because they are almost ready for their next assignment.

The Evolution of the Soul: Descending and Ascending Arcs

Page 62- “In yet another of his psychic readings, which has some relevance here, we find our psychic guide referring to the stages of evolution as sometimes ascending or descending in the form of an arc. That metaphor is matched in the theosophical writings of H.P. Blavatsky, who tells us that on the descending arc of evolution it is the spiritual which transform itself into the material; whereas, on the ascending arc, it is of course the material that goes through the transformation process, gradually reasserting its spiritual selfhood. All things had their origin in spirit, she writes, “evolution having originally begun from above and proceeded downward, instead of the reverse, as taught in the Darwinian theory.” This quote brought a lot of comfort to me, often times the human experience can bring so many challenges that you lose sight of the original plot. There’s comfort in knowing that you once were this perfect spirit long before the density of Earth changed you. If you believe in the theory then we are here only to learn and evolve our way back to our original form and then later reunite back with our creator. Earth and all of her experiences are mean to challenge you, that is the whole point. But never let those challenges allow you to forget who you really are without the human “mask”.

Is Your Dream Location Tied to Your Soul’s Origins?

Page 69- “Presumably not all of the devolving gods had completely abandoned or forgotten their higher origins. As for the survival of that high plateau country in what is now a portion of Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, it may represent a sheared-off portion of the Lemurian continental shelf that overrode a sub-ducting oceanic-plate of basalt, which set it down in its present inland location astride the newly rising American continent, as Lemuria sank. When I read this paragraph the first thought that came to mind was: it is it really a coincidence where we end up leaving? Yes we have our human reasons for wanting to move to a place but is it our higher self guiding us back to our original origins? That could be the science fiction junkie in me asking those type of questions :p One of the things that I love to do is find, or attempt to find, the real meaning in life. Life is not cut & dry like they want us to think and I want my curiosity to lead me to as many answers I can find within this life time.

Why I Trust My Inner Guidance Over Religion

Page 91-“There was another side to the creative capabilities of the androgynous sons. It involved turning within, rather than turning to the Upper Forces.”  This line was a personal reinforcement in how I live my life. I am not religious and never have been. I believe in a higher power, aliens, creatures not from this world, and everything else in between. I firmly believe there is so much more out there that is just “is” and not a representation of evil like some religions make us to believe. I respect the idea of religion and what it means to some people but it will never resonate with me, at least not in this life time. I firmly believe turning within for any answers or issues I have. With time and patience I know I will figure out the best answer that is specifically curated for me. I have that much confidence in myself because I’m aware that I am small fragment that once was apart of something great, God. So if I have that spark within me, or I’m made from the Source, there is nothing that I can’t accomplish or figure out.

Final Thoughts on The Story of the Soul

I feel as thought that this is a good stopping point. I could write a whole essay on the contents on this book because there were so much information that resonated with me on my journey. Dolores Cannon was my introduction to the metaphysical world and Edgar Cayce is now someone that will help me continue down this path of learning. It’s always good to get more than perspective of information when learning anything new. The words of this book left such a strong impression on me that I plan on reading more from this Author while also reading more books on Edgar Cayce to learn more about his visions into the past and the future. If I had to rate this book on a scale from 1 to 10 for this genre I would give it a firm 9, someone will be able to resonate with something within this book. Because of this book my next purchase will be the complete series of The Law of One, until then.. See you in the next post.
