Disclosure Day Review: The Best Movie I’ve Seen This Year

It’s Saturday, June 20th, and I’m sitting on my couch, grieving that I am no longer in the movie theatre watching what I believe to be the movie of the year. Disclosure Day, written and directed by Steven Spielberg, was not specifically on my radar, but I still went to go see what it was about.

I have something in me that naturally gravitates towards anything spiritual, paranormal, cosmic, or anything that falls within the category of being “out of this world.” So there was enough curiosity to get me into the theatre.

When it was announced that another alien movie was being made, I peered above from the fortress with only my eyes visible enough to see what everyone was talking about. The more that I heard, the more I rose from under the covers. I immediately recognized Steven Spielberg, well, because…I’m a kid from the 90s (1994 specifically) and I grew up loving Jurassic Park, War Of The Worlds, and of course Jaws. Growing up, I didn’t know that I enjoyed Steven Spielberg’s movies because I was just a kid enjoying them. Now, as an adult, and dots are connecting, it would appear that he and I share the same interests.

A Movie That Wasn’t Even On My Radar

We went to see the movie (My brother & I), and I was mesmerized from the beginning all the way to the end. My expectations of this movie were neutral, even though I briefly read some not-so-favorable reviews from threads.

The beginning of the movie was well written, and the rest of the story flowed at a good pace. Unlike Scary Movie 5. The characters were introduced along with little anecdotes that helped the pacing of the story. I explained to my brother that the dialogue of the entire movie was my favorite part. The messaging from each character resonated with me in some form of a way. (Even the bad guys).

Emily Blunt Steals Every Scene

Emily Blunt was amazing as Margaret Fairchild. To me, she was the star of the movie; she is a phenomenal actress with so much range. After the red cardinal comes to visit her and her supernatural powers activate, it is incredible to see her change so naturally from speaking fluent Russian, and then later trying to mind-read her way out of a traffic stop, in which she was successful. That stare she gave the officer’s eyes, and everyone after felt so real, I even had to look away. She deserves an Oscar for her role.

The Message That Stayed With Me

The biggest message I received from the movie was to have faith in yourself. So many times I’ve seen Margaret have these strange moments that her boyfriend deemed as crazy, but she had faith that it would lead her to where she needed to be. She always ended up in the right place at the right time. In the end, when Hugo and the team had everything set up for her to return “home,” I became extremely emotional. That scene resonated with me so much. He said something along the lines of she had to return home because she had no control over her gifts, and returning home and dealing with that repressed memory was the key to unlocking everything she needed to move forward.

Why Disclosure Day Resonated So Deeply

That message resonated so deeply with me, and where I am in life, I felt like Spielberg once again wrote that scene for me. After being back in my home state for almost 3 years now, I feel like I am finally starting to realize why I made the great return. There were a lot of unresolved “things” that I was running from that caught up to me the further I went. To progress in life, you have to stop running and face that “thing” head-on so you can progress to the next part of your life.

Final Thoughts

There was so much more to love about that movie, but I won’t spoil the rest. So for now I will end with this…

Empathy, faith, and curiosity are all we need that will carry us safely into the next part of whatever the universe (or God) has waiting in the shadows. I believe it will be Aliens, but I’m just a science fiction girl living in an ordinary world. No matter what happens, we will be alright. Take the good with the bad, the happy with the sad, and continue to show love and kindness to everyone you encounter ❤️

If you don’t believe in aliens, Disclosure Day is still worth seeing because there are so many messages in that movie that we need for humanity to progress to the next step of our evolution.

Cheers.
