Hulu’s “All’s Fair” Took Over Social Media Overnight
After its premiere on November 4th, Ryan Murphy’s new TV series. Show All’s Fair was the number 1 talked about and trending topic across every social media platform. The number reason for it to be such a trending topic because Kim Kardashian was one of the stars of the show. It has been said that Ryan Murphy created the show around her life. Other notable actors include Sarah Paulson, Glenn Close, Niecy Nash, Naomi Watts, and Teyana Taylor. If Kim Kardashian did not star in this show and it included a more seasoned actor while still including the rest of the cast, the show would not have garnered so many negative reviews from critics. The show probably would have gone on to be successful without the extra negativity, because let’s face it, the show was not that bad.
Ryan Murphy’s Legacy Made This Show a Big Deal
When I think of Ryan Murphy, I am thinking of every season of American Horror Story, a show that can be so complex and dark, but you can’t stop watching. Murphy is also known for Glee, 9-1-1: Lone Star, and Nip/Tuck. I’m only familiar with Glee and American Horror Stories, but dare I say those are two of the most successful TV shows? shows that everyone has heard about or at least seen one episode or season. All’s Fair would have been added to his catalog if he had not cast Kim Kardashian. I’ll go further to say that the show would not be worth watching if she were not in the cast lineup. Despite what everyone is saying about her, she brings something to the show that ties everything together.
What Makes All’s Fair Watchable Isn’t the Story—It’s the Lifestyle
The storyline is not complex, and one user pointed out that we have yet to see them in a courtroom defending their client, but I’m okay with not seeing it so far. I really appreciate the fashion, the luxury, the homes, the show just screams WEALTH. If you hate the rich or would prefer to “eat the rich”, then this show is not for you. While I understand the position that some people hold when it comes to the wealthy elite but at the same time, I am also wildly curious about their lifestyle. And not in a superficial way, my curiosity runs deep as to how you get through all of your obstacles to position yourself so high up where you have an enormous amount of money, but also recognition?
The Cast Chemistry Is What Holds It Together
Whomever was in charge of casting for the show hit the nail on the head, because the five leading ladies all blend very well. Adding Kim Kardashian to blend in with heavy hitters such as Glenn Close makes up for Kim’s lack of experience. And I personally think she didn’t do a terrible job at acting, while others were saying she gave a bland monotone performance. I feel the performance she gave fits her character very well. We all know a friend who shares the same personality as Allura Grant. I think at one point, I was her once upon a time. If you have a close group of friends, I think everyone can see themselves in at least one of the characters.
Kim Kardashian Isn’t New to Acting or Playing Wealth
This is not my first time seeing Kim Kardashian on the big screen; my introduction to her acting was in Tyler Perry’s movie Temptation. She played the same kind of role, a wealthy assistant who definitely prioritizes fashion and her appearances. I really enjoyed her as Ava in Temptation, but I wish I could experience more of the character. But Allura Grant filled the void. Despite what critics are saying, I feel as though Kim did an excellent job in her role because it is extremely similar to the lifestyle she currently lives. She may not be a lawyer in real life, but she is running a company (Skims) that has made a name for itself very quickly among her other endeavors. And if you have been watching their reality show from when it was on E!, then you know that The Kardashians are not new to wealth. Their reality show is one of my guilty pleasures if I’m being honest.
The Standout Characters Steal the Show
If I had to choose my favorite character in the cast that is not Kim Kardashian, I would have to go between Carrington Lane (Sarah Paulson) or Emerald Greene (Niecy Nash). Carrington (Sarah Paulson) was on all of their asses! I don’t think there was a scene where she didn’t say anything “normal.” She is playing the hell out of her role and is bringing the spicy to the show that holds my attention until the very last minute. I found myself pondering Sarah’s comeback during commercial breaks because her delivery of each line has a punch in it that left me speechless.
All’s Fair Feels Like a Luxurious Scandal
The show reminds me of a luxurious scandal, but just not as in-depth with the script. I’m not a fan of rewatching old shows, so watching All’s fair gives me my scandal fix. I would hope that if they renew for a second season that they add some more depth in the script writing, but also keep the wealth aesthetic to it. I think if Hulu has the budget for it, then they could have something to capture our attention like Scandal had for years. All’s fair has the potential to be great if they take the time to improve the show based on honest feedback.
Did The Criticism Actually Help The Show Blow Up?
Now this could be a conspiracy, but all of those critical reviews from every pop culture media site created so much curiosity that resulted in them debuting with 3.2 million views in just 3 days, and is now Hulu’s biggest scripted debut series. The conspiracy in that would be that all those negative reviews were intentional to get people to view the show to see what the hype is all about. And let’s face it, the only reason that show brought along so many negative reviews was due to everybody running to discredit or just flat out being “mean” to Kim Kardashian.
Why I Actually Respect Kim Kardashian
I don’t see what pop culture sees when discussing Kim Kardashian, and I’ve been a silent watcher since the beginning. When I see Kim, I see someone with so much drive to challenge themselves and intentionally stay out of their comfort zone. No matter how she started and all the businesses she created along the way, she never stopped. She has always pivoted and stayed consistent in her image! Her determination to maintain success has paid off a million times over, with Skims, probably, being her most successful business. Her taking a leap of faith in signing up to do a scripted TV knowing she would receive ruthless criticism, shows she has some tough skin. Throughout all of the drama in her personal life throughout the years, the era that she is now gives off that she is the most confident she has ever been. A bit more relaxed, too. It’s safe to say that she has moved into a category where whatever she has her hands on to share with the world, I will be front and center to support.
Final Thoughts: Why You Should Give All’s Fair A Chance
Final thoughts: All’s Fair is a show that I would highly recommend if you are browsing through your streaming channels looking for something to watch. It has a good enough, but light, storyline to keep you hooked and anticipating the next episode. And if you are big into manifesting and love to look at wealth while having a passion for Fashion (iykyk), then please give this show a chance, I promise it’s not bad like “they” say.
Congratulations to Ryan Murphy, Kim Kardashian, Sarah Paulson, Glencose, Niecy Nash, and Naomi Watts!
